Date syrup is a thick, caramel-like sweetener made from dates. It’s not only delicious, but it’s also a healthier alternative to regular syrups as it contains the nutritional value of dates such as fiber, antioxidants, and several vitamins and minerals. Date syrup can be incorporated in many different ways into your diet. We’ll dive deeper into those health benefits in this next section as well as how date syrup can be utilized in your everyday routine.

 

As we’ve mentioned, date syrup is made from pitted dates and has both the delicious, sweet flavor and the same health benefits! Dates, for example, are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants prevent cells from damage and can therefore protect our body from certain diseases like cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. Date syrup is also rich in fiber which can help the digestive system. Fiber is considered a heart-healthy food and can help lower cholesterol and lower the risk of certain diseases. It also keeps you full longer and therefore aids in weight loss. 

Additionally, date syrup is filled with vitamins and minerals such as zinc, magnesium, and potassium. These help our immune system synthesize proteins in our body and regulate blood pressure. Many other vitamins and minerals found in dates will not be discussed at length in this article, including vitamin A, vitamin B6, and iron.

Date syrup can be made easily at home or found at the grocery store. To make date syrup, you need freshly pitted dates. After soaking them in hot water for 2 hours, the skin can be removed easily. After removing the skin, the dates can be mashed and then using cheesecloth as a filter, water can be extracted from the rest of the ingredients. Lastly, you’ll boil the remaining ingredients in water until that water evaporates and a caramel or honey-like substance remains – date syrup!

To utilize date syrup, it can be added easily to different recipes such as cookies and cakes. It’s a great alternative to refined sugar, given its nutritional properties. It can also be utilized as a sauce on top of foods such as bread, yogurt, or savory dishes to add a sense of sweetness.

 

Date syrup can easily be incorporated into one’s diet in various ways. We recommend adding it to your yogurt or using it to make desserts healthier. Date syrup is healthier than regular sugar or corn based-syrups as it contains many of the nutritional properties of raw dates. This includes antioxidants, fiber, and various vitamins and minerals. Because of its nutritional value, date syrup can help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer and aid in weight loss. The bottom line: date syrup can be included as part of a healthy, everyday diet!
