March 29, 2018 | Raquel King
With Easter Sunday quickly approaching, many people are beginning to think about what to make in terms of festive food dishes. In 2018, Easter falls on April 1st, which is only a few weeks away. Shortly thereafter, the Islamic community will be celebrating Isra and Ma’raj, a traditional Middle Eastern holiday that is also known as the Prophets Accession or Night Journey. This year, Isra happens to fall on April 13th.
Dates during the holiday season across the world
Since both holidays are right around the corner, now is the perfect time to contemplate special foods or dishes that will be sure to impress your families and guests. Including Dates in your selection of dishes is a great way to create that extra festive feel. Dates, which were once thought of as a humble fruit, are now gaining wider recognition as one of the world’s tastiest superfoods, making them the perfect addition for any holiday meal.
Dates as symbols at different events throughout the year
For centuries, dates have been incorporated into all important events in the Middle East, whether it be a wedding, funeral, holiday, or a simple family gathering. Since dates are one of the oldest and most desirable fruits in the world, they are also a great way to spark up an interesting conversation at your upcoming holiday gatherings. There are several hundred species of dates, all of which are packed with flavor, as well as vitamins, minerals, energy, and fiber. Dates have been around for thousands of years and have always been very popular among people living nomadic lives (particularly in the Middle East and Africa). Dates are super-rich in antioxidants, and they have a lengthy shelf life due to their low water content.
Because date palms have a myriad of uses, they are often referred to as the tree of life. Date palms and dates are sometimes thought to symbolize the resurrection of the soul as well as abundance and magic. Because of their rich history and rich flavor, they are sure to be a sensation at any family gathering or holiday meal!
