Cholesterol, What Is It? And Do We Need It?

Cholesterol is actually a substance that your body needs to build cells, so yes, your body does need it to survive, which should lay to rest some rumors and claims made about cholesterol in general. However, cholesterol comes from two different sources.
Your liver makes all the cholesterol that you need, and animal products such as meat, poultry, and dairy in your diet add extra cholesterol. These foods are also high in saturated fats and trans fats, which can cause your liver to make more cholesterol than it normally would.
